Agriculture in southern Sumatran great
South Sumatra is famous for agriculture and fruit production, especially Duku, durian, pineapple and banana. Duku plantations reach 3,851 ha with a production of 62,226 tons, durian plantation 40,486 ha with a total production of 29,000 tons. However, duku and durian trees are old so rejuvenated. Pineapple plantation reach 4,670 ha and the total production is 513,858 tons. In addition, avocado plantations spread over an area of 275 ha with a production of 1,852 tons, star fruit plantation 95 ha produce 1,786 tons, guava plantation 311 ha produce 13,085 tons, guava plantation 834 ha produce 15,442 tons, orange plantation 7,003 ha produce 2,660,363 ton, mangosteen plantation 763 ha produce 2,286 and jackfruit plantation 1,484 ha with a production of 18,681 tons.
Southern Sumatra province also has plantation resource which is the area of 1,878,983 ha of plantations owned by the people and the company, consist of rubber, oil palm, sugarcane, coffee, coconut, pepper and the other with a total production of 4,040,150 tons. There are four dominant commodities are oil palm, rubber, coffee and coconut. Four commodities are spread almost in all districts / cities. Smallholdings still dominant compared to the company and others. Rubber production area of 1.2 million ha, followed palm oil production of 1.1 million ha. Over the past 20 years, the rate of growth is very fantastic as a result of hard work of all the components involved in their field.
South Sumatra province is not inferior to other provinces in the forest preserve, a performance that should apresiasikan forest area reached 4,416,837 ha or 40.43% of the total area of the province, consisting of conservation forest area 714,416 ha (16.17%), 760 523 ha of protected forests (17%) and production forest 2,941,898 ha (66.61%).
Southern Sumatra province has great mining potential, among other petroleum reserve of 5.03 billion barrels (10% cl) 5,032,992 matrick stock tanks or barrels. Petroleum reserves are produced by the growth of 10% per year and can last 60 years, while coal mining reserves estimated at 16.953615 billion tons, or 60% of the national reserve. The area of mining enterprises reached 1,030,128.75 ha, with oil and gas mining 2.243,120,15 ha.
